An operating theatre technician is a professional responsible for the preparation, and maintenance of operating theatres, and equipment before, during, and after surgery. They also assist surgical and anesthetic teams during surgical procedures and help to provide support to recovering patients.

The key responsibilities of the Operating Theatre Technician are to transport patients, and preparing the operating room for surgery, set up, check, connect and adjust surgical equipment, technical assistance to surgeons, clean & restock the operating room, arranging instrument, supplies and equipment according to instruction and position patients for surgery. This job requires the individual to work in collaboration with Doctors and Nurses and other healthcare providers and deliver the healthcare services as suggested by them. The individual should be result oriented. The individual should also be able to demonstrate clinical skills, communication skills and behavioural skills
Public and commercial hospitals, health centers, and other facilities all employ operating room technicians. A three-year undergraduate degree leading to a B.Voc in Operation Theatre Technology equips professionals to manage surgical procedures deftly.' clinical specimens. Students who complete this program will have the knowledge and abilities necessary to operate in a clinical laboratory, where they will conduct various tests to identify and cure disorders.
Nurses, anesthesiologists, specialists, and surgeons are among the target audiences for the course. They also prepare and arrange surgical equipment prior to surgery, clean equipment before surgery, adhere to the surgeon's directions throughout surgery or in an emergency, and manage anesthesia equipment. The demand for skilled and trained OT professionals is growing daily, from pre-and post-operative care to giving patients the right dose of anesthesia. As a result, there are more opportunities for B. Voc Operation Theatre Technology in India.

Level 5: Specialization in the relevant procedures through bridge course
HSSC has developed RPL policy to conduct pre assessment of students for gap analysis as per NOS, sharing the gap & final assessments of students and certification.
While writing the NOSs the UK NOSs were also referred to and an effort was taken to maintain comparability in the technical part of the NOSs.
